Montevideo Elementary School was established in 1980 in portable
buildings at its present site in San Ramon, a growing East Bay suburb
of San Francisco. Once a rural community, the San Ramon Valley has
evolved from fields and ranches to an area of business parks and
multinational corporations. Situated at the edge of a community
park in San Ramon, Montevideo serves 525 Kindergarten through fifth
grade students, many of whom walk to school from the surrounding
neighborhoods. The families served by the school are generally well
educated and have high expectations for their children. They are
very supportive of the school and its purpose, which is, of course,
the education of their children. With API scores consistently above
900, Montevideo is a California Distinguished School and ranks as
one of the top performing schools in the District, County and State.
Montevideo is a school that fosters academic excellence.
There are high standards for all students, with a curriculum that
is challenging and engaging, differentiated according to student
need. Teachers collaborate in and across grade levels and with support
staff to formulate achievable, developmentally appropriate learning
opportunities. There is respect for and understanding of the variety
of teaching and learning styles within the community. Parents, staff
and students understand that all work together as a team to acquire
the skills and knowledge necessary for productive, fulfilling lives.
Montevideo is proud of its rich cultural diversity.
Our school community supports respect for individuals, promotes
leadership and responsibility, and fosters democratic values, which
are integrated into the curriculum of each grade level. These values
are taught, encouraged and admired in all areas of the school community.
Our vision is that each student be sufficiently motivated to achieve
to his or her greatest potential, in a safe and caring environment.
