What
is the Scholar Fund?
Mission Statement
The Scholar Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising
funds to maintain and enhance the academic excellence at Montevideo
Elementary School. The group operates through collaboration of parents,
educators, and the community at large.
How does the Foundation raise money?
The Scholar Fund is administered by the School Site Council. Each
family is asked to voluntarily contribute $300 for each child at
Montevideo this year. Many companies provide matching gifts, which
provide additional funding. Through your membership in eScrip, the
school receives more funds. The fundraisers planned for the Scholar
Fund are the Gift Wrap Sale, the Cookie Dough Sale, the See's Candy
Sale, the Read-a-thon, and annual Spring Auction, and the Bike-a-thon.
How are the funds used?
The following list represents expenditures that have been approved
for the Scholar Fund.
Classroom Aides - work directly with students in classrooms. Having
aides in the classrooms improves staff to student ratio and provides
extra attention to students, both to those who need more help and
those who need more challenging work.
Funded entirely by the Scholar Fund and classroom donations
Library Media Coordinator - serves as a resource to students and
teachers in many areas, including research instruction and acquiring
updated materials. The district pays for 12 hours per week; the
Scholar Fund pays for 20 hours per week.
Computer Technology Instructors - 28 hours per week. The specialists
set up and oversee the running of all technology equipment in the
school, install software, do research for appropriate hardware and
software decisions, provide staff training and classroom instruction.
Most of the computer instruction at Montevideo is paid through the
Scholar Fund.
Science teacher - In addition to lab classes for 1st -5th graders,
the teacher provides additional science labs for all grade levels.
Scholar Fund and parent donations pay one day of full-time contract.
The district pays the rest of the salary.

phonics-based instruction in reading is provided for students in
the lower grades who are struggling with reading.
